KEY POINTS:
Unions have told National leader John Key to reveal the party's 34-page employment policy.
National issued a one-page summary of the policy last week but the existence of the full document was revealed in Colin James' column in the Herald yesterday.
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union wrote to Mr Key, requesting the policy "in the interests of transparency and democracy".
"[We] believe it is vital that our members and all working New Zealanders are fully informed about your intentions for their work rights before they go to the polling booth," said EPMU acting National secretary Ged O'Connell.
Council of Trade Unions president Helen Kelly said the "real policy" might cover areas not mentioned in the one-page summary, such as National's plans for the paid parental leave scheme, Kiwisaver or the Holidays Act review.
James wrote: "In behind the bland one-pagers lies quite a lot of study, consultation with outsiders and internal shadow cabinet debate.
"A 34-page paper backed the workplace relations one-pager".
