Prime Minister John Key has pledged his support for Movember - but he will not be sprouting facial hair.
Movember is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for men's health.
It involves men growing moustaches during November.
The organisers of this year's event said Mr Key had expressed his support but said his job prevented him from growing a moustache.
Mr Key has said he would wear Movember cufflinks during November instead.
Cancer Society chief executive Dalton Kelly said he was thrilled Mr Key was supporting Movember.
"Mr Key's support will no doubt emphasise to Kiwi men the importance of monitoring their health and to be more proactive in seeking help when necessary."
Movember founder Jim Slattery said Movember was important in helping men become "more open and proactive in dealing with their health issues".
Funds raised will go to the Cancer Society in support of prostate cancer and the Mental Health Foundation for its depression awareness campaign.
Online registrations were now open.
