Kerre Woodham: Good cause, hats off to Beatrice

I see Princess Beatrice is putting THAT hat up for auction on Ebay to raise money for two charities - Unicef and Children in Crisis.

Good for her. There's already an opening bid of £5000 ($10,000) for the Philip Treacy creation.

Even though I'll be mother of the bride in a few months' time, I shan't be battling for it.

Nobody could look good wearing it and spoof pictures have featured numerous noggins under it - including the Hulk, Kim Jung Il and Barack Obama.

Perhaps a costume hire place could do the honours because it will only ever be seen as fancy dress from here on in. But as the young princess says, it's only a hat and she's amazed it's had such a global reaction.

Now people can put their money where their mouths are and help Beatrice turn a fashion faux pas into a financial windfall for two worthy causes.
