Just an update on Jacqui Scott, the woman I wrote about a fortnight ago. Jacqui survived a rape attack some years ago but the surgical mesh used to repair the damage done to her is causing her constant, debilitating pain.
ACC has advised that it has written to the Australasian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists to ask if it felt any of its members had the expertise to carry out the surgery, and is still waiting for a reply. It is hoping to have some options to discuss with her soon.
Jacqui, however, is terrified that just any surgeon will volunteer to perform the operation and she has previously been told that there is nobody in the country with that level of experience.
She says the best person to perform the intricate surgery is in the United States, but ACC said that while Jacqui will continue to receive support, it is not allowed by law to pay for treatment overseas.
Jacqui has a fundraising site on Give A Little to help pay for her operation.
