Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley has been reminding his team what happened the last time they played Palmerston North Marist as they prepare for their second round central league football match against them at Palmerston North tomorrow.
Palmerston North Marist won 3-0 on that occasion and probably deserved an even bigger win against a Wairarapa United side which ,in Keinzley"s words, "absolutely imploded":
Form since that result, has, of course, seen Wairarapa United actually move ahead of Palmerston North Marist on the points table but Keinzley wants them to prove their superiority with a convincing performance in tomorrow's game.
"We were awful last time and this is the chance to put that behind us," he said. "Mind you, we can hardly play worse.....I don't think that would be possible!".
Keinzley believes, however, that for Wairarapa United to win tomorrow they will need to produce a better all-round display than they did in their upset 3-2 victory over Napier City Rovers at Hullena Park last Sunday.
While there was satisfaction in the Wairarapa United camp at having beaten Napier City Rovers for the first time at premier level in the club's history their joy was tempered by the knowledge they hade started and finished poorly.
"There was pretty general agreement we had played only about 60 minutes of good football and we all know we have to do better than that" he said. "Tomorrow is all about putting the full 90 minutes together, that's where the focus is".The yellow card fullback James Oxtoby received in the win over Napier City Rovers was his fifth for the season and means he will have to sit out tomorrow's game and replacing him there will be Aaron Spierling, who made a favourable impression off the reserve bench last weekend.
Keinzley said Wairarapa United's tactics would again revolve around them giving their in-form strikers Campbell Banks-who scored all three goals last Sunday- and Seule Soromon the chance to cut loose on a regular basis.
Keinzley hoping history won't repeat
