Wairarapa United Football Club chairman Phil Keinzley was delighted at the positive approach at a meeting held in Carterton last night at which the future of Wairarapa United was the main topic of discussion.
All senior soccer clubs operating in the Wairarapa were represented there and they were unanimous in their support of Wairarapa United seconds team continuing to play in the Capital third division competition.
This was a huge relief to Keinzley who had called the meeting because of the struggles the seconds were having this season in fielding a team, and the adverse effect it would have on the club's central league side should they fall by the wayside.
Keinzley said the senior clubs would now be encouraging their better players to make themselves available for the Wairarapa United seconds when required, on the proviso that would not jeopardise their membership of their current club sides.
"?s a short term solution it is as good as we could expect, we are more than happy to work along those lines," Keinzley said.
Meanwhile, Wairarapa United were lying eighth in the 10-team central league soccer competition after fifth round games were completed over the weekend.
Their 4-0 loss to Olympic in their latest fixture left Wairarapa United with one win and one draw from their five games and a total of 4pts.
Leading the way on 11pts are Western Suburbs and Miramar Rangers with Petone on 10, Lower Hutt City 9, Olympic 7, Napier City Rovers 7, Taranaki 5, Wairarapa United 4, Wellington United 2 and Palmerston North Marist 1.
Life isn't about to get any easier for Wairarapa United either. This coming Sunday they are scheduled to host Western Suburbs at the Pugh Sports Bowl.
