Phil Keinzley will be back in charge when Trust House Wairarapa United commence their 2011 Central League football campaign.
Keinzley resigned as coach after Wairarapa United finished a best-ever third in the Central League series last season but circumstances have seen him bow to pressure from players and supporters to continue in the role.
The main factor in Keinzley's rethink was news that a sponsorship deal which would have allowed Wairarapa United to pay a coach for their premier team had fallen through because of the economic recession.
That situation left Wairarapa United with little, or no, chance of achieving their ambition of employing an experienced player capable of also filling the coaching position and encouraged Keinzley to seriously consider requests that he again make himself available.
"In reality it was all about ensuring that Wairarapa United still existed. Without a coach that would have been very difficult," Keinzley said.
The fact he will again have his Pacific Island contingent of Seule Soromon, Pita Rabo, Waisake Sabatu and Sakeo Valevou on deck is welcomed by Keinzley as fears were they would be missing because of immigration hassles.
Fortunately those worries have dissipated for at least the 2011 season with Keinzley paying tribute to the assistance provided the players by Wairarapa MP John Hayes over the question of extending their work permits.
He said that, and the continued sponsorship of Trust House, were key elements in keeping the club afloat.
Others in last year's Wairarapa United squad who will be turning out again are former All White Campbell Banks, Adam Cowan, Carl Shailer and Aaron Spierling and Keinzley is confident that highly promising local youngster Ben Ravenwood will make the grade as well.
There will be some familiar names missing though with goalkeeper Richard Gillespie and "imports" Andrew Abba, George Barbarouses and Nick Roydhouse among them. Keinzley is encouraging any newcomers keen to try themselves out for either the club's Central League or Central Division Four squads to attend a training session beginning at Howard Booth Park in Carterton at 6pm tomorrow night.
"Right now the door is completely open for any player who wants to trial, they only have to come along to training and we'll give them every chance to impress," he said.
Just where Wairarapa United will play their home matches in 2011 is a matter of discussion between the club and the Masterton District Council with Keinzley hopeful Queen Elizabeth Park Oval is placed at the top of the list of available grounds.
"There's no certainty where we will end up," Keinzley said.
