Keep those wellies handy for weekend

MetService weather forecaster Richard Finnie said a northerly crossing the region would bring a few days of wet weather.

Don't pack those gumboots away yet - sunny fine weather yesterday was just a teaser for spring because this weekend is forecast to be a rather wet one for Wairarapa.

Even occasional thunderstorms are predicted to rattle the spring weekend.

MetService weather forecaster Richard Finnie said a northerly crossing the region was responsible for the few days of wet weather ahead.

There would be showers throughout the day today with a few fine spells during the morning but by the afternoon, the rain should start to settle in, he said.

"It's going to be a bit of a convective day with a lot of scattered showers popping up throughout the day with the possibility of thunder in the afternoon," Mr Finnie said.

By tomorrow the showers were expected to become a bit more widespread as the winds changed to a southwesterly, Mr Finnie said.

"It will be a bit fresh but it should be fine by late afternoon. It will be a day of two halves with showers in the morning."

While it might be wet, it shouldn't be cold today with a temperature of 19C expected in Masterton and an overnight low of 7C.

However, tomorrow's high will be 12C with an overnight low of 3C forecast.
