Christchurch police are urging anyone with cars still trapped in the central business district (CBD) to hand their keys over to the recovery team.
Since last month's devastating earthquake, which closed off much of the CBD, police had recovered more than 2500 vehicles, Senior Sergeant Bruce Adams said.
But there were still vehicles in the central city and police were urging owners to continue bringing in keys.
People should bring their car keys, reasonable proof of ownership and some photo identification to the vehicle recovery team at Hagley Park, Mr Adams said.
Police were also collecting bikes and bringing them back to the base, where people could collect them with proof of ownership.
