Two kayakers have been rescued after getting into trouble off the Whangaparoa Peninsula north of Auckland this morning.
Emergency services received a distress call from the stricken pair just after 11.20am, Coastguard operations centre spokesman Johnny Clough said.
The Coastguard's rescue vessel Hibiscus Rescue One responded and found one person in the water and another either still on or clinging to their kayak near Army Bay.
They were plucked from the water and taken to a waiting ambulance on shore, where one of them was treated for slight hypothermia.
Mr Clough praised the pair for carrying a marine VHF radio which enabled them to make the distress call.
