A man has been rescued from choppy seas after he fell from his kayak north of Wellington this morning.
Police received a number of calls after the kayaker got into trouble in Porirua Harbour about 9am, Inspector Ken Climo of police central communications said.
The man was rescued by a person in a row boat who had also been on the harbour.
"It's very fortunate - it's one of those situations that could have turned nasty had there not been other people there to help," Mr Climo said.
A Coastguard vessel was dispatched but was not needed.
