Police are investigating the death of a 48-year-old kayaker found floating in the water at Tauranga Bay near Westport today.
Emergency services were called about 5pm when the West Coast man, who had been fishing from a kayak, was found face down in the water about 30 metres from shore.
Resuscitation attempts failed and the man died at the scene, police said.
