Fire appliances from around the Bay of Plenty have extinguished a fire which broke out at the Norske Skog paper mill in Kawerau this afternoon.
Fire northern communications centre shift manager Jaron Phillips said there was a fire in a multi-level building at the mill and there had been reports of "rogue gas explosions".
