A Kawerau mill worker is in hospital after inhaling chlorine gas fumes during an emergency at a Carter Holt Harvey chlorine plant.
The 24-hour mill, with up to 800 workers on site at any one time, was closed for about three hours on Friday while millworkers, using breathing apparatus, isolated the leak and replaced the washer.
However, one worker inhaled gas fumes and was treated at the scene before being taken to Whakatane Hospital.
