KEY POINTS:
Only days after cutting ties with TVNZ, speculation is rife that former Tonight presenter Kate Hawkesby may have split from her husband.
Hawkesby - the youngest presenter to front the 6pm news as a fill-in newsreader - resigned from TVNZ last week, ending a 12-year career with the state broadcaster.
She had been on maternity leave since late last year, and had her third child, a girl, earlier this year. Neither Hawkesby nor her husband Richard Lyne would return Herald on Sunday calls but sources close to the couple believed the marriage was in trouble and the couple may have parted ways. Other family members contacted said they would not comment.
Hawkesby's father, former newsreader John Hawkesby, also did not return calls. However, a neighbour of the couple confirmed Hawkesby and Lyne moved out of their Kohimarama home about a month ago. Quotable Value records show Derek Developments took over the title on April 27.
