A young woman whose daughter was stillborn wants dedicated reading corners in libraries in her memory.
Katherine "Kat" Thomas lost Emily Sienna Yearbury in March this year due to pre-eclampsia. Though grief-stricken, the self-confessed avid book collector came up with the idea of "Emily's Corner", a space where children can enjoy books.
Thomas recently won a $10,000 wedding prize from a competition on TVNZ's Breakfast.
She said she and fiance Brett Yearbury would use some of the money intended for their wedding to "buy a load of books to donate to children in Emily's name".
Kat has approached Papatoetoe library to pilot the idea and says negotiations with library manager Christine Fok look promising. But Alison Dobbie, manager for libraries and information, said the appropriateness of having the project in other libraries, "needs to be considered".
