A security van driver was confronted by a would-be robber with a gun in central Auckland yesterday.
The armoured van was completing a pick-up from a Bank of New Zealand branch on Karangahape Rd when a sawn-off rifle or shotgun was presented at a guard from inside another vehicle, about 4.45pm.
No money was taken and no one was injured in the attempt.
The incident caused a minor disturbance below Victoria St on nearby Queen St where police met up with the security van.
It is believed the van's guards drove the 3 1/2 blocks before contacting police about their encounter.
Police are looking for a 1996 Mitsubishi Diamante, BGZ262, which was stolen earlier from Mt Roskill.
