Joe Karam has questioned whether Robin Bain's brother had spent enough time with him before the Dunedin killings to comment on his state of mind and says his public welcome to David is insincere.
Mr Karam's comments come after Robin's brother, Michael, spoke out about the extended family finding the retrial difficult to accept because none of those against whom the "hearsay" allegations were levelled were alive to rebut them.
But an online community, calling itself Justice for Robin Bain, have questioned Mr Karam's comments.
Kent Parker from the group said the Bain case is an illustration of a person accused of committing a crime "getting undue attention while the victims are ignored".
He said Robin Bain "has had his reputation slandered in death to serve the interests of the sole survivor".
