Justin Karaitiana was a dominant figure as Giants strolled to a 10-0 win over Newlands in just five innings in their Inter-City series men's softball match at South Park, Masterton on Saturday.
Karaitiana, who is being touted as a strong contender for the New Zealand team to tour Australia next month, pitched the whole game and took eight strikeouts while conceding just the one safe hit.
But he also demonstrated his batting prowess, scoring two automatic home runs.
Others to bat impressively were Ryan Shannahan, Travis Head and Brendan Fuge, all of whom had two safe hits from as many turns at bat.
Coach Tony Nixon was delighted with the quality all-round performance.
"We had talked about needing to put teams away early in a game by dominating with bat and ball and we did that," he said.
The Giants premier two side also kicked off their season well with a 10-2 win over Stokes Valley with coach Gary Strang pitching for the first time in many years.
In the president's grade Giants drew 1-1 with Dodgers and in the under-15s Giants were beaten 12-0 by a powerful Totara Park combination.
