A large fire which destroyed four classrooms and a library at a school in Kapiti, north of Wellington this evening, has been deemed "suspicious" by authorities.
Multiple members of the public alerted the Fire Service to the blaze at Paraparaumu School, on Ruapehu St in Paraparaumu, about 7.15pm.
Fire Service central communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said the fire in a large portable classroom block would be investigated by specialist fire service investigators and the police.
"It's been deemed suspicious.
"The block of four classrooms and library have totally been destroyed," Mr Dunbar said.
