A kangaroo which was being hunted by police in Christchurch has died.
Police finally had it cornered this morning, after a local man spotted it in his back garden.
But the animal escaped past police into the path of a car, breaking both her legs.
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve manager Jeremy McGuire went to help, but sadly she could not be saved and had to be put down.
Police earlier said it was last seen at the intersection of Johns Road and Gardiners Road.
It had been reported by a motorist as "skipping in the intersection".
It was not yet known where it came from and it had apparently been in the area for several months.
