KEY POINTS:
A fire at a Kaitaia mill today has sparked a response from fire fighters as far way as Whangarei after local crews sent out an alert.
The fire began around 1.20pm at the Juken Nissho Triboard Mill on Whangatane Drive.
An Auckland fire communications spokesman said the fire started after an incident involving a conveyor belt and a large wood drier.
He said crews had been dispatched from surrounding areas but it appeared the situation was in hand.
"I understand it's under control. We're just waiting for a further report."
He said the building had been evacuated and no injuries had been reported.
