The first baby has been born in Kaikoura since it was rattled by a devastating 7.8 earthquake.
Phaze Wikiriwhi was born at 6.34pm on Monday in the tourist town, 1 News has reported.
The mother, Meriana Manawatu-Harris, delivered the baby after a four-hour labour.
Her midwife, Bernie Thomas, told One News the arrival of Kaikoura's first post-earthquake baby was some welcome good news after a tough week and would reassure other expectant mums.
The town can still not be accessed by road due to damage left by the earthquake.
