In another blow to the small town the heart of the Kaikoura community has been deemed unsafe.
Kaikoura Memorial Centre is only to be used in wet weather after "severe structural damage".
The town has held community meetings there every day at 1pm. Now the town will meet at the same time in Churchill Park unless rain prevents them from doing so.
Civil Defence controller John Mackie announced this at the non-denominational church service this morning.
Mackie said as the town is reconnected with its normal services he hopes people will recover at home.
