KEY POINTS:
Chris Kahui, who is facing charges of killing his twin boys, was today released from custody on bail.
His lawyer Lorraine Smith had previously said she would apply for bail on the grounds that he is a young man with good family support and no previous convictions.
Kahui, 21, was bailed at Manukau District Court to an address outside Auckland and is subject to a 24-hour curfew.
He is not to associate with children under 12 or discuss the case with the twin's mother, the court ruled.
There was applause from the public gallery as Judge Anna Johns made her decision.
The Crown did not oppose bail.
Kahui first appeared in court in October on two counts of murder and will now re-appear for a pre-depositions hearing on January 17.
It is alleged he killed his three-month-old sons Chris and Cru Kahui, who died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in June.
Kahui did not comment as he left court today but Ms Smith has previously said the charges will be fought.
