Two women seen together at the Manukau city centre on June 20 are being sought by police investigating the deaths of the Kahui twins.
Police investigating the deaths of the three-month-old babies Cru and Chris Kahui on June 18 say they need public help to identify the women, who could have vital information about the twins' deaths.
Inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant John Tims said one of the women was Maori, in her early 20s, 165cm tall, of thin build and with long black hair, with a first name of Te Puea or something similar.
The second woman was also thought to be Maori, in her 30s, taller than the first woman and also of slim build, believed to be called Lisa.
Both were wearing green necklaces.
"I'm not going to detail what information they may have apart from saying it is vital that we identify and talk with these women," Mr Tims said.
He appealed for them to come forward, and for anyone who believes they could identify them to call police in confidence on 09-295-0200.
The Kahui twins were taken from their home in Mangere, south Auckland to Middlemore Hospital on June 13 with severe head injuries. They were later transferred to Starship Hospital, where they died on June 18.
Police said someone in the family knew how the babies died and in June accused the family of stonewalling the inquiry. They have spoken to most of the family members since.
