KEY POINTS:
Alleged double murderer Chris Kahui is back in custody after the ongoing saga of his High Court bail took another twist yesterday.
Kahui's lawyer, Lorraine Smith, had no choice but to have her client returned to Auckland Central Remand Prison after bail arrangements that came into effect on Monday proved unworkable.
The 22-year-old had been bailed to an address outside Auckland, but when he arrived there on Monday afternoon furious locals effectively drove him out of town.
Kahui is understood to be back in solitary confinement until his next bail hearing tomorrow. He is due to stand trial in April for the June 2006 killing of his 3-month-old sons Chris and Cru.
Kahui's safety has been at risk in prison, and authorities have been forced to confine him to his cell 23 hours a day to keep him away from other inmates who called him a "baby killer."
