KEY POINTS:
A court case targeting the Government's commercial fishing quotas starts at the High Court in Auckland this morning.
Recreational and big game fishing groups have banded together with the nation's largest tribe Ngapuhi to protest the commercial limits for kahawai. They say it has gone from being the people's fish to a shadow of its former glory from over-fishing.
Recreational Fishing Council spokesman Keith Ingram says the groups believe the case will have a bearing on future decisions on all seafood allowances.
He says commercial fishers have lodged a counterclaim to the action, seeking to reduce the recreational allowance and increase their share.
