Two nikau palms that Auckland City Council planners wanted to cut down because their fronds obscured traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing on Karangahape Rd have been saved.
Transport committee chairman Ken Baguley yesterday said officers had reviewed the decision and would reposition the lights.
Mr Baguley thanked Brent Hubbard, of Oceanic Palms, for waging a campaign for commonsense.
Mr Hubbard's company provided and planted the trees nine years ago.
He spent five months battling council to keep the trees, and says he is was delighted at the outcome.
