The Sensible Sentencing Trust's national spokesman and a prominent Hawke's Bay defence lawyer both escaped injury in a crash which badly damaged the vehicles they were driving and brought down power lines near Havelock North last night.
Garth McVicar, of Te Pohue, was driving the trust's sponsored Hyundai on Napier Rd on his way to a meeting with supporters in Havelock North when the crash happened just before 5.30pm.
After colliding at the intersection with Mill Rd with a vehicle driven by lawyer Nigel Hewat, the Hyundai spun and crashed through a pole which was supporting lines which were brought down in the path of a third vehicle.
Mr McVicar said later he had also been concerned for cyclist riding alongside him.
It appeared she may have taken evasive action, and he said: "We found her in the grass.''
