A jury in the High court in Auckland has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of a man accused of shooting another man dead as he banged on his front door and asked his partner to let him in.
Wayne James Bracken, 35, has pleaded not guilty to murdering 26-year-old John Patrick Maeva on August 31, 2008.
The prosecution said that a week before the shooting Bracken fell out with Mr Maeva's cousin, Paul Maeva, over cannabis.
Bracken bought a .22 calibre rifle and was waiting for John Maeva when he arrived home.
Prosecutor Steve Symond alleged that as Mr Maeva banged on his house door he was shot twice in the head.
He partner found him lying on the doorstep when she opened the door.
