A New Plymouth jury has retired to consider its verdict in the manslaughter case involving a father and his four-year-old daughter.
Gavin Vanner was charged with manslaughter after his daughter Molly was killed when the quad bike he let her ride rolled, killing her instantly.
The Crown alleges he was grossly negligent in allowing her to ride the 368kg all-terrain vehicle (ATV) alone.
In his summing up this afternoon Justice Rodney Hansen told the jury "only someone with a heart of stone could fail to be moved by the plight of the Vanner family".
The jury retired at 2.30pm.
