Dalefield defender Daniel Juno has done it again.
The 19-year-old has been included in the Wellington senior men's hockey team to play in the 2005 national league.
It is the second successive year that Juno has made the Wellington side and his selection comes after trials in which another Dalefield player, Marcus Emery, also took part.
Both Juno and Emery have repped for New Zealand at age group levels in the past.
Juno will be part of the action, but Emery will be missing when Dalefield take on Northern United in a Wellington premier division club match at Clareville tomorrow.
Dalefield coach Laurie Juno, father of Daniel, says the 12-1 thumping his team received from Hutt last weekend has played little part in the build-up for this game.
"We've basically said that is a game to forget, that it was just of those days when nothing goes right," he said. "Dwelling too much on it wouldn't serve any useful purpose, would it?"
Juno has big respect for Northern United, who sit third on the competition table, but he also notes Dalefield have done well against them this season, especially at home, and he has not discarded the possibility of a win.
"I know it might seem silly after what happened last weekend, but I really do think we can get a good result," he said. "If we play to out potential a win is definitely on."
Winning will certainly be very much on the minds of the Dalefield women's team when they square up to Harbour City-Tawa in their Wellington premier division match at Clareville tomorrow.
If Dalefield don't win they will end the preliminary rounds in third place, and consequently will play their semi-final away from home.
But if they can beat Harbour City-Tawa by three or more goals to pick up maximum points their semi-final could be at Clareville.
That would depend on the result of tomorrow's game between the two top teams, Eastern Hutt and University, with Dalefield requiring a University win there.
Dalefield coach Andy Wilson was disappointed with his team's defensive effort in their 4-1 loss to Eastern Hutt last weekend and has been working hard with his players to enhance that part of their game before tomorrow's encounter.
"The problems can be remedied - a lot of it has to do with maintaining concentration right through the game," Wilson said. "At this level you ease off even for a few minutes and the chances are you will be punished for it."
Dalefield are, of course, the premier division defending champions and no matter what happens tomorrow Wilson believes the four teams going through to the semis are so close ability-wise that any of them could take out the title for 2005.
And that's the very reason why he seems home advantage as such a big plus.
"Even if it's worth only one goal that could be the deciding factor in the end," he said.
