Some outstanding early season tennis was produced when the Trevs open junior tournament was held at the Masterton Trust House Centre .
A total of 82 entries were received and 70 of them came from outside the Wairarapa region.
The Khandallah Academy players took the limelight in the boys under-16 singles with Finn Tearney beating his younger opponent James Capovilla 6-0 6-0 in the final. Despite the scoreline it was a splendid game to watch between two players who should make their mark on a higher stage.
In the under-16 boys singles plate Sam Barr took the honours from Richard Gibbons while in the doubles Alex MacDonald and Sam Barr headed off Andrew Baird and Finn Tearney.
The under-16 girls singles went to Nicola Boyles from Wellington ahead of Rachel Baxter while in the plate Doris Berberic placed first and Amanda McKellar second. Locals Rosie Aitkenhead of St Matthews Collegiate and Lilly Parker of Wairarapa College won the under-16 doubles from Doris Berberic and Megan Brooks.
In the under-12yrs boys section Thomas McCabe won the singles from Michael McGwinchey and the plate went to Rhett Purcell from James Osbourne of Hadlow.In the doubles Scott Basalai and Luke Leesbury won from Mac Lessburg and Thomas McCabe.
Winner of the girls 12yrs singles was Mihiana Cottrell from Amelia Millar and in the plate Kelly Southland won from Zoe Paris of Opaki School. The doubles saw Amelia Murray and Kelly Southwood head off Toni Gray and Pip Beachen.
