Paulik was impressed, too, with the standard of play in most of the finals, with players displaying tactical nous plus the willingness to rally.
"The enthusiasm among the players was really something to see. Sometimes they only had a 15-minute break between matches but that didn't seem to bother them at all."
An incentive for the participants was that places in the Wairarapa junior age group sides to play Manawatu in Masterton this Sunday were up for grabs and it also provided a chance for the younger players to work themselves into form for the McDonald's Grasshooper novice tournament to be held on Saturday, March 24. It is open to those in the 6 to 12 age groups.
