Junior doctor strike talks fail

Further strike action by junior doctors on May 7 and 8 looks unavoidable after negotiations with district health boards broke down by midday yesterday.

The doctors walked off the job for two days last week in support of a pay rise of 10 per cent a year for the next three years.

The employment contract covering junior doctors expired in June last year, and the two parties have been unable to reach agreement since then.
