Westlake Boys High School can confirm the young cricketer whose mighty blow cleared the school grounds - landing on Auckland's Northern Motorway - was a junior player.
Headmaster Craig Monaghan refused to name the youngster, but said the player was in Year 9 or 10.
The boundary stroke - at an inter-school 20/20 competition last Saturday - bounced on to the motorway, hitting a pasing car.
The Transport Agency estimates it is about 50 metres from the closest cricket pitch to the motorway.
The ball did not shatter the windscreen but the occupants - a mother and her young children - were left in some distress, Mr Monaghan told the Herald this week.
The school and the transport are now working on finding a way to protect motorists from any more hurtling cricket balls.
