Jump on bike to posh picnic

Kick off this long weekend with a relaxing and very posh picnic at Stella Bull Park in Greytown today.

Adam Blackwell of Blackwell and Sons is inviting people to "air their tweeds" and bike the Greytown to Woodside trail as well as picnic at the iconic park in Greytown, where there will be entertainment from a jazz band, "spiffing" games, prizes for the best-dressed rider and bike, and other special surprises.

The Very Posh Pashley Picnic runs from 11am to 4pm and anyone with or without a bike is welcome to join the fun.

This is the debut weekend for the new Featherston Camp Centenary Exhibition at Aratoi Museum in Masterton.

The exhibition tells a story that is of national importance and visitors are sure to be "wowed".

Organisers say the Featherston camp was a living embodiment of the New Zealand military establishment, charged with turning raw recruits into real soldiers.

This weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the first soldiers to arrive at the Featherston Military Training Camp.
