A drop in honey production last season has led to a jump in the price.
About 9000 tonnes of honey were produced - three thousand less than the previous season.
Federated Farmers bee industry chair John Hartnell says the industry is very dependent on the weather.
He says the new season starts shortly, and the country looks in amazing condition.
