Taggers should expect to be sent to jail, says Judge Tony Adeane. In the Hastings District Court Eddy Nils Brynildsen, 19, was sentenced to 200 hours' community work for tagging two power boxes.
He was told his next tagging offence would result in jail.
The judge said he was determined to deter taggers, despite being criticised for jailing an "imbecile" tagger who defaced a private residence in 2008.
"I think an MP called me a dickhead in Parliament," he said. (The MP was Hone Harawira. He later apologised.)
