KEY POINTS:
A Rotorua District Court judge has deferred until Friday a decision on whether abused Rotorua toddler Nia Glassie's step-father can remain on bail, while charged with assaulting her.
Wiremu Te Aroha Te Whanau Curtis, 17, who has previously been granted bail by Auckland District Court, appeared in the Rotorua court today along with Michael William Curtis, 21, and Oriwa Terrina Kemp, 17. All are charged with assaulting three-year-old Nia who subsequently died in Auckland's Starship Hospital from head and abdominal injuries.
Michael Curtis and Kemp were both remanded in custody for a pre-depositions hearing on September 27.
The other two defendants in the case - William Curtis, 47, and Michael Paul Pearson, 19 - were previously remanded in custody until the same hearing.
While police today opposed bail for Wiremu Kemp, his lawyer Nigel Cooke argued that Judge James Weir could not revoke the Auckland court's bail decision.
Judge Weir said he would announce his decision on Friday morning.
