Property magnate Sir Robert Jones will oppose fellow Wellingtonians John and Michael Chow in the planning stoush over the brothers' bid to build a tower building, including a brothel, in central Auckland.
Robt Jones Holdings owns Telco House, next to the Victoria St site where the historic Palace Hotel was demolished on Auckland Council orders in November 2010 after the brothers' low-rise redevelopment left it unstable.
Last December the brothers announced the replacement at 75 Victoria St West would be a 15-storey building that would include a brothel, Penthouse Club, hotel and offices.
On April 3, the council called for public submissions on the bid, setting a May 4 deadline.
Yesterday, the first major opponent emerged when Robt Jones Holdings Auckland director Greg Loveridge said the scale and look of the building on its northern face were objectionable.
