KEY POINTS:
John Key has not even been sworn in as Prime Minister yet, but he is filling his appointments diary with meetings with world leaders.
After attending the Apec summit of Asia-Pacific leaders in Peru next week, he will fly to London to meet British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for discussions on the world financial crisis.
Mr Brown extended the invitation to Mr Key yesterday in a telephone conversation between the pair before Mr Brown's departure for the G20 meeting in Washington, also to consider the global turmoil.
Mr Key will also try to catch up with his political soulmate and friend David Cameron, the British Conservative Party leader.
Mr Brown's leadership on the financial crisis has reversed his political fortunes in Britain. His popularity is rising and his Labour Party is cutting the Conservatives' lead.
Mr Key will be sworn in on Wednesday and will leave for Peru the next day.
He will attend the Apec summit with 20 other national leaders, including United States President George W. Bush and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
US President-elect Barack Obama is sending former Republican congressman Jim Leach and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, a Democrat, to represent him at the G20 summit.#But he is not attending the gathering himself and will not be meeting any of the foreign dignitaries who are attending.
