Prime Minister John Key had a one-on-one meeting with the Queen this morning at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where they talked about the Maori Party's support for the Government's emissions trading scheme and Prince William's visit in January.
Mr Key said when he first met her after taking office a year ago they had talked about how National had entered into support arrangement with the Maori Party.
He said that she had asked him yesterday how it was a going a year on and what was working and what wasn't.
"I was able to talk to report to her that they had supported our emissions trading legislation unlike every other party in Parliament with the exception of United Future."
MP Hone Harawira's troubles were not discussed - "better left unsaid," said Mr Key of the abusive email he sent.
Mr Key met the Queen after the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting where there was a large no-show from African nations. Only seven out of 16 Commonwealth countries on the African continent sent leaders, though mainly the big countries: South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Cameroon.
Mr Key will have a bilateral meeting tomorrow with Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa where he wants to discuss the issue of people smuggling and the human rights issues around displacement of civilians since the end of the civil war in May.
Mr Key said he had spoken with President Jacob Zuma of South Africa and invited him to New Zealand to watch a rugby game.
