John Barry Craig (known as Barry), 67, of Christchurch, worked for insurance broker and risk advisor Marsh.
He was at the Marsh offices in the Pyne Gould Corporation building when the earthquake hit.
A statement released by Marsh said Barry had worked in the company's Christchurch office for 12 years and was a much loved and valued colleague.
"Barry's death following this tragic event is a terrible loss for everyone," said Grant Milne of Marsh New Zealand.
