Joe Karam's defamation case against two Justice for Bain members opened in the High Court at Auckland today.
The longtime David Bain supporter, who had several supporters in court, alleges comments made by Kent Parker and Victor Purkiss defamed him.
Mr Parker is acting for himself in the case, before Justice Patricia Courtney.
Mr Purkiss was not in court today. Mr Parker, who also had some supporters in the public gallery, told the court he had not heard from him for some time.
Mr Karam's lawyer, Michael Reed QC, told the court Mr Parker and Mr Purkiss launched a public campaign against his client, essentially attacking his motivation for supporting David Bain.
