Jobs are out there but you can't be too fussy

A call for job seekers in Wairarapa on the Times-Age Facebook page prompted some mixed responses this week.

The call was made as reporters worked on a story about job prospects looking good in the region.

The majority of people said there was no work in the region. Brendon Corlett said a major factory employer in the region was actually laying off staff.

Amy Howard said: "Too hard to find wrk in mstn, we lived there all our lives, and wen partner was made redundant for the 3 time in 5 yrs we had to mve down to chch. we been here a month, hes wrking and things are good!!"

Ana Namana, Chris Shaw and Mike Babbington agreed.

"There are no jobs in mstn there a problem rite thea ..." posted Ana.

"Forrestry or shearing sheds and ... Nuffin."

Chris posted: "There are no jobs", while Mike posted "what jobs there are none".

Wayne Watson added his opinion.

"Not much out there, apart from minimum wage or close to it work. As for trying to find a decent employer in the Wairarapa ..."

But one user said there was work in the region. Kane MacArthur pointed out there was a "fair bit of work out" in places like supermarkets and The Warehouse.
