A long-time familiar face on regional television, mother-of-four Joanne May Giles was also known for high-adrenaline activities and even tried her hand at politics.
The colourful Jo, 60, who was among those who died in the CTV building, represented New Zealand in pistol shooting at two Oceania Games and a World Cup.
She was also a jockey, and competed in motorsport including rallying, circuit racing and speedway. She also enjoyed rock 'n' roll competitions.
Jo was described by friends as lovely and bubbly, with an infectious, warm nature.
