Jim's over the moon with new boat

Like many people, Jim Porter plans to spend Christmas fishing, but unlike most others, he will have a new boat to fish from.

Mr Porter is the winner of the Herald Win a Boat competition.

The 54-year-old taxi driver from Mt Wellington was "over the moon" when he found out he had won the Stabi-Craft 533XR Sport boat, worth more than $55,000.

He now plans to take his family to Whangaroa Harbour for the Christmas break.

Mr Porter is a keen fisherman and has good boating skills, having owned a boat before. He hopes to use the Stabi-Craft at least twice a month.

The Win a Boat competition was a joint effort between the Herald and WaterSafe Auckland to educate people about water safety. The competition was enormously successful, with more than 2200 entries and more than 3000 issues of the safe boating booklet being distributed.
