KEY POINTS:
Christchurch police have called in search and rescue groups and will use jetboats as they continue scouring areas of the Waimakariri River for 15-year-old Marie Davis missing for nine days.
Inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said police were also making inquiries with family, friends and associates.
Ms Le Bas said the inquiry wanted anyone who may have seen anything untoward or suspicious in the Northcote Area of Christchurch or the banks of the Waimakariri River on Saturday April 5 or Sunday April 6 to contact them.
If people are out walking or passing through those areas police have asked them to be vigilant and if they notice any suspicious items to contact police.
Marie hasn't been seen since being dropped off by a friend's mother at her suburban Papanui home about 6pm on Saturday, April 5. She failed to meet her elder sister, Amy, and was reported missing about 8am the following day.
Police are also appealing for any sightings of Marie or her green canvas shoulder bag, which is missing from her home.
Earlier a police spokeswoman said about 25 searchers would concentrate on part of the riverbank about 12km from Marie's home and from which a number of disturbances were reported on the night she disappeared.
Ms Le Bas said one report was of a scream.
"I believe there has been a scream but we're keeping an open mind about that," she said.
Sightings of Marie had been reported from throughout the country and as far afield as Australia, and all were being followed up.
She is described as a part-Maori, about 168cm tall, with brown eyes and shoulder-length black hair.
She is thought to be wearing dark trousers and a pink short-sleeved T-shirt with a white T-shirt underneath.
